History
Line: Belford Roxo
Local Attractions: Mercadão de Madureira (Madureira Market), Império Serrano Samba School, Madureira Park, Casa de Jongo da Serrinha Cultural Center
The history of this station and the Império Serrano Samba School are linked. In the past, Sections of Império took a luxury train (exclusive) to parade in Praça Onze. A curious fact is that in the carnival of 1975, when the school honored Zaquia Jorge (a famous actress of the time), one of the losing school’s ‘samba plots’ (samba enredo) ended up becoming one of the most famous and beloved in Brazil. The “Estrela de Madureira” (Star of Madureira), by the composers Acyr Pimentel and Cardoso, recounted that Zaquia “from the suburb of Central was (had been) the pioneer” and that “a luxury train departs to exalt her art, which cast a spell over Madureira”.
